MSU-Northern Alumni Wresting Dual
In mid-October 2023, I got my first look at the 2023-2024 MSU-Nothern Lights wresting team at their annual Alumni Dual. It was a lot of fun seeing the old timers wrestiling the young men. When I say old timers, I mean almost all of them are 10 years younger than I am. I was honored to spend the morning before the duals with my good friend and Head Coach, Tyson Thivierge. We sat around in his office about 90 minutes before the dual and shot the shit and I watched him manage the chaos of having old friends and student athletes whom which he built such a strong bond with over the years, and his new breed of Lights wrestlers coming in and asking questions as they lightly jabbed at my old friend.
As he always does, he reached over to his box of shirts and grabbed out a brand up UPtop Northern shirt and threw it my way. The same tee shirt that I am wearing as I write this blog about him and his squad.
As the match grew closer I wanted to head out and give him some peace as he prepares but I also wanted to dial in my settings and see what would work best in that dungen known as the Armory Gynmasium. I say that because its not a photographers friend due to the lighting…
With my settings dialed in, I laid on the floor next to the mat to get the best perspective and wandered around to a couple different vantage points. In the duals, they do three 1 minute rounds. Which means they can get al 16 matches done in a hurry and also help out the old timers who aren’t in shape.
Old Man strength won the day out as the kids were no match for the old guys. I was fortunate to shoot a lot of smiles that day. Tyson always had the biggest one as it’s such a thrill for him to see all of his old friends and gauge his new breed in a fun setting.
Being able to spend a few hours with Tyson in his element was a treat for me and I was honored that he let me capture the days events. Thanks again Pootie…
