MSU-Northern vs Eastern Oregon Football

On a warm October day in 2023, I got a chance to shoot the Northern Football team from the sidelines. It was the first Northern football game I have attended in over 15 years. Their new stadium is beautiful and the playing field is wonderful. I got to go out on the field for the coin toss and shoot my good friend and his daughter doing the coin flip.

Northern played solidly for the first half. A couple of bounces didn’t go their way, but they were in the ball game at half time. Taking photos on your home town football field was kind of weird. I dont live around Havre any longer, and most folks dont know that I got into Photography. I got lots of questions about if I work for the newspaper and “I didn’t know you like photography”. I’m sure it was a little weird for people seeing that and not knowing on of my passions. Of course having 2 cameras with telephoto lenses walking around is a dead give away that something is up with this guy…

In the second half, the game started to slip away from Northern. The defense was wore down by Mountaineers and in the end, were no match. Northern showed a lot of heart but just couldn’t put the ball in the end zone. I had a great time and would love to shoot more football in the future. It was a great learning experience.
